A brief history of Astramed Physician P.C.
In September 1993 a newly graduated physician walked into a vacant building in St Albans New York. The person accompanying him was an older physician from the same area who was about to retire. He told this young doctor long stories about the history of the area including the rich history of the neighborhood, of the likes such as Miles Davis and James Brown having taken residence there. He told him the community was a proud one and very tightly knit. This building was vacant at that time. This building had lain vacant for over two years. There was dust everywhere with tons of old books and old furniture scattered throughout the building. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling and the two mens’ foot-prints left a mysterious trail in the dust as they treaded cautiously through the building. “This is it” the older man said, “You have to take it as is”. “I have no money” the young doctor said. “The owner is willing to grant a lease to purchase, you decide if you want it” replied the older man. And so began the Astramed story. The newly graduated doctor was Kevin Lowe M.D. The older man who passed a few years ago was Henry Meacham M.D. Neither man knew at that time that they were creating a legacy. Three years later a second location was opened in 1996 in Hempstead New York and two years after that in 1998 a third location sprung up in Jamaica Queens. Another physician, Aurelious King M.D, had passed and his wife Elizabeth King M.D. herself a physician had asked Dr Lowe to take over the running of their office as well. That same year Astramed Physician P.C. was incorporated. Astramed pursued a policy of hiring physicians and reinvesting the proceeds back into the business. In 2005 a fourth location was opened in the Bronx. Two years later a fifth location in the Westchester area of the Bronx was added to the Astramed family of offices.
Today Astramed employs six doctors and a nurse practitioner and is a vibrant business serving the communities in which its offices are located. Astramed has adopted a policy of preventative care and its doctors are dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and assisting their patients in executing the best management of their illnesses. Technology ensures that health maintenance is in the forefront of the service it provides to the communities it serves. Its mission statement is “Providing the highest quality of healthcare to the world”, a guiding principle that governs all of the activities at Astramed. |
